D is for Sheffield Davis #atozchallenge

D is for Sheffield Davis

I'm Sheffield Davis and I'm thrilled to be the A to Z challenge honored guest today. I appear in the third book in the Providence in Ecuador series, which hasn't been released yet. So I'm excited to get to tell you a little about me before you have preconceived opinions.

I live in Memphis, Tennessee home of Elvis and am a reporter for a local television station. A little-known fact about me is I attended Mississippi State University and majored in Meteorology.  But I come from a big family and didn't want to go all over the country in pursuit of a meteorologist position , so I do this reporting gig while I wait for a weatherman position to open up in my hometown. I think sometimes I drive the weather guys nuts at my station, because I can't help myself dropping in on them especially when severe weather is in the area.  It's such an adrenaline rush.

I haven't found that one lady who can tie me down yet, but Memphis is a big place. I'm sure she's here somewhere and one day I'll run into her. I imagine I will know she's the one the first time we meet. I'm a little idealistic and romantic in that sense I suppose.

Maybe I'm beginning to mature a little bit. I can't tell you exactly what I've been reporting on lately, but I can tell you, that big exciting things have been happening in Memphis. By big exciting things, I really mean terrible catastrophic things, but, and I'm a little ashamed to say this, maybe these stories will launch me into a job in a bigger market.   Maybe Atlanta or New Orleans. Not too far from home, and I sure do love the south. I feel positively dirty for thinking that tragedies could advance my career, but it's the world we live in now.

Being in a book is pretty cool. I'm not one of the main characters, but I understand there will be more books in the series and maybe I will show up again. Maybe moving to that bigger market will help me land in another book. Book 2 is set in New Orleans, book 3 in Memphis.  Who's to say...maybe Atlanta will be next.  I would love to advance to a main character position where I would get to go to Ecuador. Ecuador's getting a lot of attention lately and I think it would be a great place to visit. I don't think I would want to move there, though. They think football is soccer and  I know I must stay close to SEC football.  Fall has always been my favorite time of year, but it wouldn't be nearly as nice without football. The NFL is fine, the game is a bit better, more experienced players and all, but it's not nearly the same as those SEC rivalries.

Anyway, it was nice to meet you and if you're ever in Memphis, tune in to watch me on Channel 6 Bluff City news.

From Scarlett: Sheffield, thanks for chatting with us today. Do you really think I would have moved to Ecuador if there was no football?  I can still watch my MSU Bulldog and SEC football and we even have an American style football team here in Cuenca. Come on over and I'll show you around.

Come back tomorrow to hear about E is for Ecuador. And if you want to visit more A to Z blogs, click here.

  1. I like the idea of a weatherman as a character - great potential to tie in a news story or a mystery with the clues being meteorological!

  2. I love this theme and what a great character! Living in the Philadelphia area it is tough when it comes to college football because we have so many fabulous Universities. We only have one NFL team! Good luck with the rest of the challenge!

    1. Thank you! I don't know what it is about SEC football, I guess it's probably true of all divisions. Thanks for coming by and reading my blog!

  3. A great theme!

And also, the horrible sports you're subject to overseas is one of the worst parts about travel and living overseas. It's better now, with the Internet, but still. Football is important! And not what people overseas seem to think it is.

  7. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. We moved south in August, and no matter where we roam, remain loyal to our Tennessee Vols. That includes six years in the UK where futbol is king. We like that too though!

    1. We are enjoying the futbol in Ecuador too. But it ISN'T football. I was born in Tennessee and lived there several times off and on in my life. I know all the words to Rocky Top! Thanks for coming by and reading my blog!
